Generation 21 – Network C group 1

This group is still currently deciding on an overall title for this piece of performance-based work.

Network C has overall themes of water, earth, and sky – group 1 is dealing with the earth hence our piece is loosely based in Sefton Park

The sub group met for the second time on Tuesday 19th February at Kingsley Road School – all schools in the network were represented at the meeting. This meeting was very productive; we set the basic story idea with the information obtained from Belvedere school. All of the teachers involved were enthusiastic about the project and have agreed to go back to their groups and chase up ideal times and days for the practical sessions to take place on. It was also agreed that the teacher’s would start the preliminary work with the young people to get some ideas flowing about Future World.

So far we have a very rough story – this was directly influenced by the young people of Belvidere school who did a rough script loosely based on the Peter Pan story.
It will be a performance piece involving, drama, music, dance, design, video, multi media etc –

Our basic story so far...

It all starts in Sefton Park, It is a fine day, and the sun is streaming through the trees and glinting of the lake. Wendy and her children are standing looking at the Peter Pan statue. Wendy wonders how he is doing now and what will the future hold for her, and her children.
Suddenly Peter (the statue) winks at Wendy and they are all transported into Future World in Liverpool. The story then unfolds re: how and what the future may hold for us all, Wendy and her children and the city of Liverpool.

Over the period of the next three months, arts based practitioners who specialise in dance, drama, music and design, and multi media will be visiting the schools in network C group 1, to deliver a series of practical based workshops, which will build up the story of Wendy and future world, and animate it into a performance-based piece.
The inspiration for the performance will come directly from the young people involved. Who are already in their schools working on ideas for Future World.

Belvidere school’s drama group have offered to run peer based training sessions in the primary schools in Network C group 1. They are currently planning and preparing to run these sessions with the overall artistic director.

Next meeting is planned for all schools to attend at Kingsley school on April 8th 2008.

Don’t forget to log in soon after this date to see where we are up to on this exciting schools project.
